Daniel Sweet has served as the pastor of Matthew Road Baptist Church for over sixteen years. Prior to receiving the call to the pastorate, Daniel worked as a consulting actuary with Watson Wyatt Worldwide, an international human resources consulting firm for ten years. Daniel holds an undergraduate degree in mathematics from Ouachita Baptist University, a masters degree in applied mathematics from Southern Methodist University, a Masters of Divinity from Southwestern Theological Seminary and a Masters of Historic Theology also from Southwestern. He is also an enrolled actuary.
He has completed all the prerequisite language and background work in order to begin PhD work, but is waiting until his career as a coach for his sons’ baseball teams runs its course. He is married to Kim, she holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Texas at Dallas and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. She completed her three year pediatric residency in 2001 at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas and is working in private practice as a pediatrician in the Baylor Health Care System. They have two children, Austin and Michael. Austin is taking courses at TCC and Michael attends MRA.
Having been with MRA since its inception, I have enjoyed watching God grow the academy and work through the lives of our students. My heart’s desire is to foster an environment where Christ is weaved through-out each course and students can be challenged and held accountable in their walk with Christ and in their academics. As an IEW instructor for almost 10 years, I have also had the privilege of working hundreds of students. It is truly my joy to instill a love for writing in each child, lifting them up and encouraging them along the way. I am the proud wife of Daniel McClellin and mom to Alyssa and Anabelle, MRA graduates, and Alex, who attends MRA full time.
God has written my story with many twists and turns, the one I have enjoyed the most is the time I have been blessed to spend at MRA. I came on board with Matthew Road Academy as the study hall monitor in 2014. At that time I was blissfully unaware of how God was preparing me to take on a new role at this school. My favorite verse Esther 4:14 says it best “perhaps you have been brought here to this place for such a time as this.” As a follower of Christ, I know that the Lord has appointed my days, and how grateful am I to have the amazing opportunity to work at MRA. During my time here I have been able to witness some amazing growth within the school and the students. When not at work I enjoy my time at home with my sweet husband, Nicholas, and two charming sons, Micheal and Eric, both boys have been apart of the MRA family which has been astounding for our family. My greatest joy is getting to share God’s love and word with the students and people I encounter each day.
I am excited to come on board as part of the support staff at MRA. We have homeschooled our four children for over 10 years and have been blessed to attend Matthew Road Academy part time. I have seen first hand what a great school this is and I’m looking forward to getting to know lots of students and parents this year! My husband, Josh and I, enjoy leading active lives with our kiddos: Hunter, Abby, Emily, and Caleb.
I have been with MRA for many years. I have two students here my son, Sam, and daughter, Joy. My favorite thing in life is… to LEARN… and to teach. Nothing in the world makes me as happy as watching our students at MRA learn and grow in the wisdom of the Lord.
I am excited and blessed to return for my second year at MRA. Having a senior graduating from MRA, we are getting involved in lots of activities here sadly this is his 5th and final year. I have a 4th grader who also completed K thru 2nd grade at Matthew Road Primary Academy. I have seen first hand what a wonderful, caring, and Christ centered school this is. I am looking forward to getting to know lots of students and parents this year! I am also a teacher at PAW, this is my 5th year there and my 9th year as a preschool teacher. I enjoy caring for, loving on, and blending Jesus’s love and Bible stories with teaching. Matthew Road Baptist church, their caring staff, and all three schools have been a true blessing to my family in many ways. I have 3 boys, my 18 year old twins Austin and Blake, and my surprise gift from God, 9 year old Easton. I have been blessed to be married for 23 years to David, a police Captain, and deacon in our church. Our entire family are very active in our church. We love Jesus and serving Him together.
I moved to Texas over 25 years ago when I got married and began my education. I began at TCC South Campus and proceeded to UTA where I graduated. I have taught for over 24 years.
I also am a co-chair of a non profit organization called TAME. I co-chair our local chapter. It stands for Texas Alliance Minorities Engineering (it is open to all students 6-12th grade).
I have been a part of this for 8 years. During that time I have volunteered with various after school programs to mentor students and get them interested in the area of math and science, as TAME is a part of STEM (science technology engineering in math). In 2017 I received a community partnership award from TCC for my work with TAME.
Angie Duncan- Biology, Advanced Biology
As a certified teacher in the state of Texas, I have been teaching somewhere for the last 20 years. I joined the MRA family several years ago when my children became high school students here. I have experience as an MRA parent and currently teach the high school and upper-level biology classes. I love our Creator and Lord God Almighty! Teaching science captivates me because God’s creation points right back to Him! Year after year, I am continuously in awe of our Lord through the study of biology and the human body. God IS the thread, the breath, the voice, the force embedded within every aspect of life! I hope that each student will enjoy his or her journey through the life sciences and will connect more deeply with Him! “For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made, so they are without excuse.” Romans 1:20 ESV
I am excited to be apart of the incredible staff at MRA! I grew up in Minnesota and moved to Grand Prairie in December 2001. We have been members of Matthew Road Baptist Church for over 10 years and this is my son’s 4th year at MRA. I am blessed with an amazing family – my husband Ron and our 4 children.
Many times in both the Old and New Testaments, scripture speaks of singing and playing musical instruments with skill. We want to present our praise with excellence! This is the reason that Alison Fischer teaches music. She has taught piano and voice for over 30 years. With a BA in Psychology and minor in Piano Pedagogy from New Mexico State University, she is uniquely suited to work with young people to help them develop their God-given interests and talents in music. As a member of the Music Teachers National Association, Texas Music Teachers Association, and Grand Prairie Music Teachers Association, she promotes musical excellence and provides students with the opportunity to participate in local and statewide piano and voice events. Most importantly, she encourages students to perform for the glory of God, playing their instruments and raising their voices, praising the Lord: He is good! His faithful love endures forever! (2 Chronicles 5:13)
I earned a B.S. degree in Speech with a focus in Organizational Communication from the University of Texas at Austin. While home schooling my four children, who are all college graduates or college students now, I’ve strived to develop in each of them a joy for learning. I still love learning! I’m especially passionate about literature, writing and history and about bringing God’s Word into everything I teach. Over the years, I’ve taught writing and literature at several co-ops. As a true sign of a home school mom, I enjoy teaching children of all ages and discovering their unique qualities while enabling them to develop knowledge, self-confidence and a love for learning! In my free time, I enjoy studying God’s Word, reading for pleasure, swimming, walking and hiking, playing board games and spending time with my husband Jeff, a full-time pastor, and with friends and my entire family. My son, Marshall, thrived at MRA and I’m thankful to serve the MRA family.
Fort Worth native Laura Goin is a local gal through and through. After graduating from Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History (English minor), she married and, after two babies came along, settled happily into the role of homeschool mom. Those babies are now in their teens and preparing for college! In addition to being a homeschool veteran, Laura has taught numerous enrichment and co-op classes in history, literature, government and communications/speech. She is looking forward to returning to Matthew Road Academy Outside of the classroom, Laura enjoys camping and biking with her husband and children, reading, and hosting get-togethers for family and friends.
I am originally from Arkansas, but I’ve happily called Texas home for more than twenty years. I received my BS in Chemical Engineering from Louisiana Tech University in 1989 and worked for six years in the oil and gas industry before deciding to stay home to raise and homeschool my three children. Two are now in college, and my youngest attends MRA full time. I have taught science for several years in a co-op setting, and I am thrilled to be part of Matthew Road Academy. My prayer is that each student in my classes experiences the same sense of joy and wonder as I do while we learn more about this incredibly beautiful and complex world our Creator has made. It’s my honor to partner with you as you raise great kids!
I have been teaching children in a variety of disciplines for over 25 years. I graduated from UTA with a BA in English with Elementary and Early Childhood teacher certification. In 1998, I started The Dance Connection in Grand Prairie, and was the director for 13 years. Before starting a family, I also taught first grade in public school.
I am the wife of Joel and the mother of Nick and Ethan and have been homeschooling from the beginning. I currently enjoy teaching math, grammer, ballet, and writing at MRA.
Oklahoma born, my life’s journey took me to California where I met my husband, Brian, we have two charming children: Joe and Jayme and share a cheerful home with my mother, a retired teacher. I graduated from California State University with a degree in Psychology, and then went on to get my Teaching Credentials. Being from a long line of educators, I am an avid reader, but most enjoy being outdoors with my kids. There is nothing as rewarding as seeing the spark of knowledge light up a child’s eye as he learns something new. We now live in the country with our dog, cat, three ponies and a large garden. We’ve named our home, “Happily Ever After” for good reason!
I am so very excited to be blessed with the opportunity to teach science at MRA this upcoming school year. My love for science dates back to my childhood with memories of taking biology classes at College for Kids at TCC. I graduated from UTA with a Bachelors of Science degree, my major being Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I am especially excited to be able to express my amazement and love of God’s creation through science and I pray that the students at MRA will also learn more about God’s glorious attributes throughout the year; that as they learn more about science they will come to love Him more and long to know Him more.
My teaching experience ranges from kindergarten, third and fourth grades and Gifted and Talented grades k-5. My passion is all things history related: Texas, world, biblical, you name it! “It’s all good y’all!” When not teaching, I enjoy family and church activities with my husband Terry. I love spoiling my grandchildren, Seth and Ellie . Their parents are Mariann (daughter) and Keith Burris. Our son, Gerald, a graduate of Howard Payne, lives in De Soto.

Nina Wilhite attended Tarleton State University and Mountain View College, where she studied to be a teacher. She has been teaching since 2010 and really enjoys the younger elementary age group.
What we love most about Mrs Nina is her dedication to detail and willingness to raise the bar high, knowing her students can achieve academic excellence. When Nina is not teaching at
MRA you can find her teaching preschool or with her husband. They have three amazing children, Michael, Amalie and Ethan. Michael and Ethan play baseball and other teamsports. Amalie dances ballet, tap & jazz! She looks forward to teaching her students about the world God created them.
