Our History

Pastor Daniel Sweet founded Matthew Road Academy in 2012. Intrigued by the university education style for younger students and after researching and seeking out God’s will for the surrounding community he felt called to open a school that the average family could afford.
Completing an array of degrees himself, first in mathematics and then theological studies, Pastor Sweet holds academics as a high priority. He and his wife, a local pediatrician, are blessed with two boys, both who attend the academy.
Pastor Daniel’s desires for MRA were very simple: an affordable part-time private school that focused on parental involvement, high academic expectations, low classroom ratios with qualified teachers who were passionate about their subject and Christ in all – woven through-out the curriculum, staff and the students and families enrolled.
32 students rounded out the first year at MRA. Under God’s continual grace and wisdom and the prayerful guidance of Candice McClellin, the school has grown. Pastor Sweet continues to remain on staff as the Dean of Education and teaches various subjects, like Latin and Church History.
Matthew Road Academy’s goal is not to be the biggest school, as a ministry of Matthew Road Baptist Church and to keep the tuition cost affordable for families, we will stay within the walls of the church and therefore only have room for 12-16 students in each grade. Our goal is to know each student, minister to them, diligently teach them and continue to keep God’s will above all else.
We are looking forward to what God has in store for MRA and the enrolled students during each and every school year!

What Families Say

MRA has been an answer to prayer!  They have academic classes that we need!  I love that they involve the parents as much as they do!  I believe MRA to be a more than viable choice for many families!

MRA has been Great for me because I get to spend more time with my family. Also teachers are equipped with wonderful teaching skills. I would definitely recommend in MRA.

Finding MRA has been such a blessing for our family. We are so thankful to have a safe place that our children can receive a Christ centered education.
Marietta Najera, Parent
I feel safe taking my son here, I trust and know the staff and love that they actually care about my child’s education. Thank you MRA for being a wonderful safe alternative to my child’s education that always puts our Father in Heaven first.

We love that there are also several field trips that the school includes everyone in, throughout the year and field day in the spring is wonderful.

What is a University Style Education?

University Style Education is an educational style that merges private education with a home school experience. This approach to education is a benefit for elementary through high school students by enhancing the learning experience in a small class environment, with a college-preparatory education, in a Christian setting.

High academic standards are set and while less time is spent in a classroom setting, students work towards achieving a strong work ethic in class and out. A University Style Education setting offers a full load of courses and can be considered a full time school schedule, however it also allows for the flexibility of those seeking part time education for certain subjects.

The purpose of Matthew Road Academy is to assist parents in providing education and development for each student enrolled.
Our goal is to encourage student’s personal development through Jesus Christ and academic rigor.
The Matthew Road Academy hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays will be based on the student’s course schedule.
Matthew Road Academy offers two 16 week semesters. We have traditional holiday breaks for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Break. Please see the current year’s schedule for further date details.
