English Composition 4/5

English Composition 4/5 – Matthew Road Academy
Instructor:

Candice Goode

Description:

This course will introduce students to writing while traveling through America. We will move through units 1-7 of IEW’s writing program. Students will learn to take notes from a source text, summarize narrative stories, write from pictures, put together mini-research reports, and compose creative essays.

I have a knack for making writing fun, your student’s love for writing is sure to grow this year!

Requirements:

During our weekly class time we will work through our new writing assignment together as a class, as well as work through editing and writing skills with a weekly bell ringer assignment. However, the majority of the student’s writing will occur at home during the week. Students will often read their prior week’s assignment aloud in class and I will collect all papers to check for required elements and lightly spot check for writing errors. Your student will receive a grade for each week’s assignment based on completion of paper with required elements. In addition to the writing assignment, there will be vocabulary homework each week.

A syllabus will be sent out to parents with details of assignments due. There will be a writing assignment due each week, parents are required to fully edit and have the student revise a final draft each week at home. The amount of time required from week to week will vary based on the ability of the student. However, expect 2 hours a week on average outside of class time.
