General Science

General Science – Matthew Road Academy
Instructor:

Nina Wilhite

Description:

This course is a middle school level science class designed to give students an understanding of the world that surrounds them so they can appreciate the real-world relevance of scientific inquiry and the beauty of creation. Study skills and scientific writing skills will be introduced and strengthened to prepare students for high school science classes. We will complete many hands-on experiments as we explore God’s creation. It is an excellent course for preparing the student to take a college-prep high school science curriculum.

Requirements:

Our class time will consist of both lecture and science labs, which enriches the learning experience by supporting the concepts studied. Students will be maintaining a binder/folder with all returned tests and important handouts. In addition, students will be keeping the student notebook that accompanies the textbook. Many homework assignments will come from the textbook; these will consist of Study Guide Questions that will cement concepts presented, along with review questions and practice problems to determine knowledge of the material as well as help in preparing for the test. Tests will be taken approximately every two weeks. The amount of time required from week to week will vary based on the ability and age of the student. However, expect 30-45 minutes a day MWF on average.
