Grammar 1

Grammar 1 – Matthew Road Academy
Instructor:

Shannon Rosales

Description:

This course will be an in-depth study of grammar using Analytical Grammar.  We will cover season one and season two which is heavy on diagramming.  Grammar 2 will cover season three involving usage and mechanics.  It is an excellent program in which the child will “graduate” from grammar studies with a thorough understanding of the English language structure and composition. The student will also practice editing and writing mechanics skills through daily “Caught’ya” exercises and Roots, Prefixes, and Suffixes using Word Roots.

Requirements:

The class will meet twice per week and homework will be assigned each class period to be turned in the following class unless otherwise specified. Students will be graded on homework, quizzes, and tests.

Prerequisites:

Completing one year of Elementary Language Arts at MRA is desired, but not absolutely essential.
**This is a parent involved course.  It is tempting at this age group to allow them complete independence.  For this course, it is very important that the grammar exercises are graded by the parent for the student to receive feedback and effectively learn the concepts.  That does not mean the parent has to understand the concepts, only be available for grading and noting questions to ask in class.

Grades:

Grades will consist of grammar exercises, quizzes, and tests, Word Roots exercises and quizzes, and “Caught’ya” editing assignments.
