Grammar 2 w/ Adv Writing

Grammar 2 w/ Adv Writing – Matthew Road Academy
Instructor:

Courtney Johnson

Description:

This course will combine the student’s study of grammar with application in writing and will consist of two main components: grammar and essay writing. The student will continue an in-depth study of grammar using Analytical Grammar. We will cover “season three,” applying what we learned from Grammar 1 about structure through diagramming to make corrections involving usage and mechanics. It is an excellent program in which the child will “graduate” from grammar studies with a thorough understanding of English language structure and composition. We will also continue our writing studies with IEW’s The Elegant Essay. The focus will be on essay writing to prepare the student for high-school writing. Editing and vocabulary exercises will also be incorporated.

Requirements:

The class will meet twice per week and grammar, and writing homework will be assigned each class period to be turned in the following class. During our weekly writing class time we will work through our new assignment together as a class; however, the majority of the student’s writing will occur at home during the week. The amount of time required from week to week will vary based on the ability and age of the student. However, expect 2-3 hours a week on average outside of class time.
