Description:

This course is a continuation of Language Arts 3.  We will complete volume 2 of The Logic of English, reaching our goal of 74 phonograms and 31 spelling rules.  Phonograms, spelling rules, and grammar will be taught in such a way that students will better understand the how and why of the structure of the English language.  Students will engage in interactive learning as they use their new knowledge to decode and spell.  In addition, students will practice grammar, including prefixes, suffixes, and Latin roots.

Requirements:

This class will meet twice a week, and homework will be assigned each class period to be due the following class period.  In addition to assigned homework, students should always be practicing their phonograms and spelling rules.  Tests will be administered throughout the year and will cover phonograms, spelling rules, and grammar. 

Prerequisites:

Students new to MRA Language Arts will be required to complete a summer homework packet and/or a summer boot camp in preparation for the new school year.

All parents new to elementary Language Arts at MRA must watch a mandatory orientation video where the philosophy and teaching style of our curriculum, The Logic of English, will be explained.

Grades:

Students will be graded on quizzes, homework, and tests.

2 hours independently per day, 3 hours working with a parent per day

Parent Role:

Practice the Fabulous Phonogram Flash Cards with your child weekly.

Review the spelling rules, frequently watching the spelling rule videos with your child.

Study the grammar terms with your child weekly.

Ask questions when there is any confusion about the material being taught and check RenWeb faithfully. 

Double check to ensure that all homework is completed.

In the case of your child’s absence, you are responsible for instructing your child concerning any missed information.
