Dual Credit- Introduction to Speech Communications COMM1113 – Matthew Road Academy

Description:

A study of basic communication principles, with emphasis placed on public speaking. Topics include classical origins of communication, communication theory, speech development and organization, use of visual aids, and strategies for informative, persuasive, and special occasion speeches. Students have multiple speaking opportunities in class. The class will be conducted primarily online through LeTourneau University. In-person meetings at MRA are designed to provide help with organization, allow opportunities for group discussion and support students with individual assistance as needed. (meets one semester one day a week)

Requirements:

This class should take about five to eight hours per week aside from the one-hour in-person meetings. The amount of time required from week to week will vary based on the assignments and the ability of the student.

Prerequisites:

11th grade enrollment, and acceptance to the LeTourneau dual credit program.

Grades:

All grading will be completed by the LeTourneau professor. It is recommended that each student earn at least a C in order for the credit to transfer. Upon successful completion of this course, a student will receive  0.5 high school credit toward graduation and 3 college credits.
