US Government
Facilitator:
Melissa Bryant
Description:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will earn the required one-half credit in Government for their high school transcripts. Among the myriad topics covered in our detailed, full color text are: what shaped our Founding Fathers’ philosophies, the ideals contained in the Declaration of Independence, the framing of our Constitution, the Amendments, our Constitutional system, and the challenges we face in the 21st century. Each unit includes terms to understand, critical thinking activities, review questions, and discussion questions. In addition to the text, we will pull in other activities and resources to further explore various topics in more detail, including current issues and events. This class will meet two days a week in the fall semester.
Requirements:
Students are expected to participate in class activities and discussion, stay on task, follow instructions, and exhibit proper conduct at all times. Students are expected to take their work seriously, complete all assignments to the best of their ability, and turn them in on time. Sloppy, illegible, or incomplete work will not be accepted. Late work will only be accepted on the basis of an excused absence. Unacceptable or missing work will result in a zero for that assignment, and a conduct demerit will be noted.
Prerequisites:
Student must be a proficient reader and writer who is committed to meeting the demands of a rigorous college preparatory class.
