There will be recitals given in December and May with dates and times to be scheduled. An optional solo and ensemble contest will be held in the spring. Practice for a minimum of 30 minutes 5 days a week is required. Students will record practice time on weekly assignment sheets.

Lesson Tuition is based on 25 minute lessons once a week for the school year (30 weeks). This is paid directly to MRA through your regular tuition payment(s). When figured as monthly tuition from August through April, the rate is about $90 per month. This is a very competitive rate for private music lessons offered in our area that can run $120 to $150 per month.
Other fees paid directly to the instructor are a recital fee of $150 paid in July to cover the Fall and Spring recitals, optional solo and ensemble fee of $15 to $20 in the Spring, and summer tuition for required 5 summer lessons at a rate of $35 per lesson in June and July.
Instrument: Students need to purchase or rent an instrument. Instructor will help measure students to ensure the correct size. Violins and violas rent for around $130 per year at one local string shop in Arlington. If parents wish to purchase an instrument, it is recommended to consult with the instructor to ensure the instrument is worth the investment. Many inexpensive instruments on Amazon do not hold their tuning and break easily. It is vital that students have a correctly sized quality instrument in order to be successful.
No previous musical experience needed. Students are required to take at least 7 lessons in the instructor’s home during the summer in order to enroll for the fall. These are scheduled according to student and instructor availability in June and July.

The younger the student the more involved in practice the parent is required to be. Parents will need to schedule a daily practice time for 5 days a week. Individual assignments will be recorded in the student notebook each week. Parents will oversee that assignments are completed and practice time is recorded on the weekly assignment sheet. Occasionally parents will be asked to review flashcards or double check hand positions and specific instructions will be sent home for parents.
